About

I’m Amber Purdy, a graphic designer turned collage artist working from my home studio. Collage allows me to repurpose imagery and objects in a way that creates something new out of literally scraps of other things: transforming paint, paper and old photographs into whole new designs.
My work often begins with recycled papers and old books. Vintage imagery of people or places are carefully combined with textures, colors and patterns in an intuitive way. My pieces reference nature, dreams, memories, and the ephemeral world around us.
My work has been featured at regional and national exhibitions, in local shops and galleries and in print as well as in boutique hotels throughout the US.

How do you make your collages?
I got my start creating digital collages using Adobe Photoshop years ago, integrating it into my graphic design work. In the last few years, I began to be interested in making hand cut analog collages and selling originals as well as prints.
Using my large collection of both digitally scanned elements as well as vintage books, papers and ephemera, I design in an intuitive way, experimenting with layouts and allowing the materials and images I have to come together in a pleasing way before I finalize my designs. I do not use AI to create my designs.
Do you do custom projects?
While I don’t work on hand made custom projects right now, I am available for select digital projects, depending on timing and budget. Reach out through my contact form and I will answer any questions along the way.
Where can I purchase your work?
I currently sell originals on Etsy If you’re in Knoxville, TN, you can find my work at the Maker Exchange and through the Knoxville Arts & Culture Alliance at the Emporium Gallery.
Can I use your art with permission?
I do select licensing of my work, usually only for a one time use situation. Please contact me here regarding any questions about using my images.
